The son of the Sauer family moved and began his own firm in the west with ideas and arms from the old plant. J.P.Sauer & Sohn production was minimal during this period eventually getting "acquired" by the Soviets and parts and machinery were moved east. The Soviets were allowed to control part of Germany and Suhl was in that region. At the end of WWII J.P.Sauer & Sohn was in a very unfortunate position (geographically) in Germany. As to the first question of SIG-Sauer, yes, in a long way around SIG purchased Sauer.
